Mike Napoli has a lot of great memories of his two seasons with the Texas Rangers, including his first World Series.
Now he’s back, playing first base for the Boston Red Sox at Rangers Ballpark.
Napoli says it’s not ”too weird” to be back in Texas and that he looks to competing against his good friends.
After 54 homers the last two seasons for Texas, Napoli went into Friday night’s series opener with a majors-leading 22 extra-base hits, including six homers.
Napoli says the chance to play first base every day, rather than also catching, was the best fit for his career and health. He initially agreed to a three-year deal with Boston before a hip condition was detected during a physical, and is playing on a one-year deal.

Former Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton is throwing fire at his former home, saying that the Dallas Fort-Worth area isn’t a good baseball town in an interview with the Dallas Fort-Worth CBS affiliate. “There are true baseball fans in Texas, but it’s not a true baseball town,” said Hamilton. “They’re supportive,” Hamilton said about the fans, “but they also got a little spoiled at the same time pretty quickly.” “You think about three to four years ago (before two straight World Series appearances in 2010 and 2011). It’s like, come on man, are you happier there again?” If you want to see a textbook example of burning bridges on your way out of town, take a look at Hamilton’s comments in this interview. He signed a five year, $ 125 million deal with the Angels this year, and Texas GM Jon Daniels was reportedly not pleased about not being given a chance to match the Los Angeles offer to Hamilton. Written By Clifford Santa Monica, When I see a statement made like this, “…if they simply provide production around what they did in 2012 while Kinsler and Cruz tick their production up a notch, the Rangers offense won’t miss a beat without Hamitlon and Napoli in the lineup….” It just drives me crazy. Here is what I say about that….. Dude, if you think the two players you just mentioned will actually DO that, you’re delusional. Nelson Cruz will be 33 years old on July 1st. NOTHING this underachieving possible PED user has accomplished during his tenure with the Rangers suggests to me that we’ll see anything different from him than we’ve witnessed since his original call-up as a 26 year old. in 2006. Namely, inconsistent-to-poor clutch hitting with just enough tape measure home runs mixed in to persuade our wooden-headed manager that he’s a real force in the middle of our lineup. Oh-I left out the fact that (like golden boy Ian Kinsler), he’s both mistake AND injury prone. As for Kinsle

Edwin Jackson has chosen to sign with the Chicago Cubs. Four-years and $ 52 million are pretty good reasons. Multiple teams had interst in the 29-year-old but yesterday the bidding was between the Cubs and Texas Rangers.
In Chicago, Jackson will join a staff that includes Matt Garza, Jeff Samardzija, Scott Feldman and Travis Wood. The team also has Scott Baker who should return in May.
It is quite an increase for Jackson after he took a one-year deal worth $ 11 million from Washington last season. He finished the year 10-11 with a 4.01 ERA. He was the only member of the Nationals staff to have a losing record and his ERA was the highest among anyone who made more then six starts.
The Cubs are in the second season of a rebuilding plan with general manager Jed Hoyer and team president Theo Epstein. Last season the Cubs lost 101 games, finishing with their worst record since 1966.

In case Texas Rangers fans forget how different their lineup is going to look when the 2013 season begins, the team’s 2013 calendar is here to serve as a reminder. As you know, Texas has parted ways with several stars this offseason including Josh Hamilton, Mike Napoli and Michael Young. However, the calendar you see above was already printed before any of those transactions went down. As the one gentleman said, the calendar can now be viewed as a collector’s item. Hamilton has signed a massive deal with the Angels, Napoli is heading to Boston — if they can ever work out the wording in his contract — and Young has been traded to the Phillies. Despite that, the trio still makes up Mr. May, Mr. August and Mr. September. If there are any Rangers fans out there who are unwilling to fully let go of last year’s studs and want to see their faces during the 2013 season, you now have the perfect gift idea.

The Cleveland Indians are now talking to starting pitcher Edwin Jackson about a contract for 2013. Jackson is also being courted by the Texas Rangers and Chicago Cubs. Bidding for Jackson is reaching the four-year and $ 50 million mark reports John Heyman. Last season Jackson pitched for the Washington Nationals posting a 10-11 record and a 4.03 ERA in 31 starts. Jackson was the only member of the Nationals staff to have a losing record and also had the highest ERA of anyone who made more then six starts. In a ten year career Jackson is 70-71 with a 4.40 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP. He has also spent time with Los Angeles, Tampa Bay, Detroit, Arizona, Chicago (A), and St. Louis. Cleveland has also been courting former Yankee outfielder Nick Swisher. Swisher is known to have drawn interest from Boston and had been talking to Seattle until recently. Swisher visited Cleveland yesterday and was met by former Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel among others. It is unlikely that the Indians sign bot…
