Dwight Gooden Chronicles Missing World Series Parade While on a Bender

Dwight Gooden should be known as the greatest pitcher ever for the New York Mets. He was simply tantalizing when he arrived as a rookie in 1984, and immediately became the most dominating pitcher in the entire league. His first three seasons are almost unparalleled and he topped it off with a World Series ring in 1986. There is a ton of excitement around rookie Matt Harvey at the moment, but he doesn’t even come close to Doc. Instead of celebrating the championship moment with this teammates and the fans of the Mets, he was in the grasp of the addiction that would deteriorate his career. Shortly after the Mets defeated the Red Sox in Game 7, Gooden called his father, then his drug dealer. Cocaine and booze, and his own personal hell is where he celebrated the great victory. He watched the team’s parade, all by himself from his home, as he chronicles in his autobiography, Doc: A Memoir. Here is an excerpt, via the NY Post: “As my teammates road through the Canyon of Heroes, I was alo…

Rod Barajas Found Missing World Series Ring in Wife’s Shoe … Four Years Later

The story of Rod Barajas’ missing World Series ring has a happy ending. Barajas, 37, saw his first regular action as a big leaguer with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2001 — the year the team beat the New York Yankees in the World Series. Even though he only batted .160 in 51 games as a backup catcher that season, Barajas went 2-for-5 with a home run in the thrilling seven-game series. Barajas cherished the World Series ring he won that season, and he even got a pendant made for his wife, Stacie. But Barajas thought the ring and pendant had been lost in a move. According to MLB.com’s Steve Gilbert, Barajas and his wife moved from Arizona to San Diego four years ago. The catcher wanted to wear his ring that offseason, but he was unable to find it. When the couple bought a home and brought their belongings out of storage, Barajas thought he would be able to find the treasured items. He had no luck. Believing the ring and pendant to be lost, Barajas even considered buying a replacement ring from the jeweler

Magic Johnson: World Series Is Goal for 2013 Dodgers

Magic Johnson brought five titles to the city of Los Angeles during his time with the Lakers. Eight days before pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training, Johnson wants everyone to know that it will be a disappointment if he does not bring them a sixth. Last August, the Dodgers pulled off a blockbuster deal with the Red Sox, acquiring Josh Beckett, Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez. Los Angeles also signed free-agent pitcher Zach Greinke to a six-year, $ 147 million dollar contract. With a new ownership group and talented roster, Johnson has placed very high expectations on his team. “We want to go to the World Series. If we don’t accomplish that, yes, it is not a good season for us,” Johnson told the Los Angeles Times. “Guys should be saying that. As the ownership group, that is what we are saying.” This puts a large amount of pressure on Dodgers manager Don Mattingly. Mattingly’s contract expires at the end of the season and Johnson and his ownership group did not offer him a…

What the Yankees Should Do

The Yankees, once again, had another tumultuous postseason this year which ended with the Detroit Tigers making quick work of them. When watching that series I could only compare it to a random country taking on Japan in the early stages of the Little League World Series, Japan being the Tigers in this example. It was not so much the pitching, although it wasn’t fabulous, but the hitting was atrocious. It seemed the only guy who could get a hit was the captain, but once he suffered a gruesome ankle break, the Yankees had absolutely no chance of doing anything offensively. Raul Ibanez had some incredibly timely hits, but the rest of the Bronx Bombers could not close the deal resulting in their futility. Before we get into what they need to accomplish this offseason, let’s look at what the situation looks at with the current roster for the 2013 campaign. The Infield As we look towards 2013, Mark Teixeira, Robinson Cano, Derek Jeter, and Alex Rodriguez are all under contract for at lea…
