The Washington Nationals will be without 3B Ryan Zimmerman for the next two weeks as they placed him on the DL with a hamstring injury. They called up top prospect Anthony Rendon, who will make his major league debut. Rendon is absolutely worth adding to your team in all formats, doesn’t matter if you had Zimmerman or not. Zimmerman was off to a terrible start, hitting just .226, striking out 14 times in 15 games. Just 4 of his 15 hits were for extra bases.Rendon, born in 1990, is off to a nice start in the minors hitting .292 with 4 doubles and 2 home runs driving in 7 runs and scoring 8 times in 14 games. He brings to the Nationals a great batters eye, as made evident by his 14 walks and just 9 strike outs.Other options to consider are Josh Donaldson, Chris Johnson, Juan Francisco and Placido Polanco.

The Reds will be without left fielder and clean-up hitter Ryan Ludwick for a while, as the club announced Tuesday that they will place him on the 15-day disabled list. A corresponding move will be announced prior to Wednesday’s Opening Night game against the Angels.
Ludwick is slated to undergo surgery on Wednesday to repair torn cartilage in his right shoulder. The 34-year-old sustained a freak injury when he slid headfirst into third base in the third inning of Monday’s opener.
The initial diagnosis was a dislocated shoulder, but an MRI on Tuesday revealed further damage to the surrounding cartilage.
Cincinnati will now have to scramble to find a replacement. Chris Heisey will likely see an increase in playing time, as will Xavier Paul, while the likes of Derrick Robinson, Denis Phipps, or maybe even Billy Hamilton are prime candidates to replace Ludwick’s spot on the 25-man roster.
Ludwick inked a two-year deal worth $ 15 million with the Reds this off…

It’s another day in Arizona for the San Francisco Giants. Tim Lincecum makes his first start today against the Dodgers. He’s eager to get off to a good start. He’s also facing a lot of regulars in the Dodgers lineup today as well.
Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle says (via Twitter) Ryan Vogelsong will be reporting to the World Baseball Classic a few days late, so he can pitch one more for the Giants rather than an exhibition game for Team USA.
In another Schulman tweet, he says Matt Cain threw his normal side session. There’s no reported knee injury, and Bruce Bochy said “He’s good.” This means he’s not feeling any pain from the line drive off his knee.

There was a very scary moment in Lakeland today during the Blue Jays-Tigers game. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Jeff Kobernus of the Tigers hit a fly ball to right center field. Right fielder Ryan Langerhans camped under the ball preparing to make the catch, but center fielder Mike McCoy barreled in from his position in center and smashed into Langerhans. Amazingly, Langerhans held onto the ball for the third out in the inning.
During the collision, McCoy’s quad smashed into Langerhans’ knee. Langerhans popped up pretty quickly and remained in the game, while McCoy was down for a bit before being helped off the field by trainers. McCoy suffered a bruised left quad during the collision, and he should be thankful things weren’t worse.

Texas Rangers CEO Nolan Ryan believes his club can still contend for the American League West crown without slugger Josh Hamilton.
Hamilton signed a five-year, $ 125 million deal in the offseason with the division-rival Los Angeles Angels.
“You just don’t replace a talent like that, and we all know that,” Ryan said via ESPN Friday before the club’s first Cactus League game. “But also, there’s a dimension that’s brought to the ballclub that very few players, if any other player in baseball, would bring. It’s so unique and unusual that you can’t put other players in that category.”
Ryan considered Hamilton a key component for a team that won the AL pennant in 2010 and 2011.
“Josh had a big impact on our organization, and we wouldn’t have gone to two World Series without him,” Ryan said.
Hamilton signing with the Angels was a tough day for the Rangers organization.
“I think the ‘pucker factor’ went up considera…
