Mark Buehrle may be playing for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2013 but that does not mean that his family will be joining him. The veteran left-hander’s family will spend the season in St. Louis with their two-year-old pit bull Slater. “We’re not trying to make people feel sorry for us,” Buehrle explained. “Obviously they’re going to say, ‘You make a lot of money. Boo hoo.’ I know it’s part of baseball and every person deals with it, but this is our first time being away from each other all season. We’re going to travel and see each other and make it work. But those nights when we have a Sunday day game and I can go home and have dinner with the family and give the kids a bath and put them to bed, that’s what I’m going to miss.” Buehrle’s wife, Jamie, said that he had offers from people willing to watch the dog during the baseball season but the family decided that they could not spend the time away from Slater. This is not the first time that Buehrle has played for a team that is locat

Isn’t it time for the New York Yankees to move on from Alex Rodriguez already? The guy is 37 years old, he juts had hip surgery and he doesn’t hit 30 home runs a year anymore. Why wait for a guy to come back from a serious hip operation? The Yankees need to find some young talent they can make their full time 3rd baseman. A-Rod was the man once but those days are fading like the paint job on a 1970 Buick. The guy has been in the Big Leagues for 19 years, now it is time to get a 19 year-old to take A-Rods place. The Yankees are going to have to wait at least 6 months to get the services of A-Rod back, that puts them into the All-Star Break. Are they seriously going to wait for Alex Rodriguez to come back and then just hand him the job? Cashman said it was possible A-Rod could be out all year. Then what do you do with the guy? If A-Rod misses the entire season, he should just hang up his cleats. Hey New York, it just may be time to bid Alex Rodriguez farewell….

The last big move for the Phillies this off-season is to get themselves a corner outfielder. With most of the big names and some small ones (Cody Ross) off the board, the Phillies have one option left, Alfonso Soriano. The $ 20 million outfielder who the Cubs have been shopping around would be a perfect fit for the Phillies. Last season Soriano belted 32 home runs and knocked in 108 while batting .262. Very good numbers for batting fifth and protecting Ryan Howard. With the start for spring training getting closer and the choices becoming less, the price for Soriano will not get cheaper.
Early in the off-season it was said that the Cubs would pick up nearly $ 14 million of Soriano’s contract which still is possible but the price is not getting any cheaper. The Phillies in early December were said to be offering Brown in exchange for Soriano. The move will also send Darin Ruff back to the minors which if it were up to the fans he would remain in the big leagues, unless the Phillies put…

In an unsurprising move, the New York Yankees have agreed to terms with outfielder Matt Diaz. There had been some speculation in recent days that the Yankees would go out and sign Diaz as he would help them fulfill their need for a right-handed hitting outfielder. Many people believed that the Yankees would attempt to [...]

Danny Knobler of CBS Sports has the latest on Joel Hanrahan.
People who have talked to the Pirates say they’re pushing to move Hanrahan. Dodgers are one possibility.
— DKnobler (@DKnobler) December 17, 2012
We’ve heard that the Pirates are shopping Hanrahan, which isn’t new. We’ve also heard Neal Huntington say that he’d be fine keeping Hanrahan and Jason Grilli in the same bullpen. I just can’t see that happening, and if Knobler’s sources are correct, it makes that combo of Hanrahan/Grilli sticking around even less likely. If Hanrahan is on the team when Spring Training starts, I’ll be very surprised.

After trading Denard Span to the Nationals earlier in the off season, it seemed rather odd that the Minnesota Twins would also trade his replacement, Ben Revere. However, the Twins improved their present rotation with Vance Worley in the deal and also received a decent prospect in Trevor May. With the myriad of problems the Twins had last season, the pitching was the largest problem and Worley should be a nice improvement.
To be honest, Revere for Worley straight up would have been a good deal for the Twins. To get May in the deal as well is a bonus. You might not agree from casually looking at Worley’s statistics for 2012. A 6-9 record with a 4.20 ERA and 1.511 WHIP hardly seems like an improvement for the Twins who gave up more hits as a pitching staff in 2012 than any other American League team. The Twins also finished next to last in runs allowed and homers allowed and were dead last in strikeouts.
But sometimes you have to go deeper than those surface stats to see…

If the Cincinnati Reds are able to re-sign Jonathan Broxton it would almost certainly signal the arrival of Aroldis Chapman in the teams rotation. Broxton began last season with the Kansas City Royals but was traded to the Reds at the trade deadline.
Broxton may not be the pitcher he was a few years ago with the Dodgers but he still managed a 2.48 ERA and 27 saves between the Royals and Reds.
It is doubtful that the Reds would spent so heavily on a set up man, which suggests that Chapman may finally be moved into the teams starting rotation. Once thrust into the role of the teams closer last season Chapman responded well. He was selected to the All-Star team and saved 38 games while posting a 1.51 ERA and a 0.81 WHIP. He may not reach the 15.3 K/9 that he had last season but he would provide a power arm to the Reds rotation.
Currently the Reds have a rotation of Cueto, Arroyo, Latos, Bailey and Leake.

Last night, St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright felt the need to bust-a-move in the Cardinals dugout during the first inning of play. It appears that Adam’s style of dance is along the lines of loving himself and being so fresh that he can’t help it: Your browser does not support iframes. (Courtesy of Holdout Sports)
