The first month of the 2013 MLB season is in the books, and this will serve as your de facto recap of which players starred, and which players faltered this April. AL Hitter of the Month Chris Davis, Orioles. Davis raked to start the season off, bashing nine homers in his first 27 games (second in the majors, first in the AL) and driving in 28 runs (tied for the AL lead). Throw in a .348/.442/.728 line and walk and strikeout rates that are vast improvement on his career norms, and you’ve got the makings of a true superstar season from Davis at age 27 after he broke out with the Orioles last year. Honorable mentions: Carlos Santana, Indians; Miguel Cabrera, Tigers; Mark Reynolds, Indians; Prince Fielder, Tigers AL Worst Hitter of the Month Josh Hamilton, Angels. Talk about BABIP, pressure, and a new environment all you want, but Hamilton has been a disaster this year for the Angels. For an average of $ 25 million per season, you’re expecting at least a five win season…

Is New York Yankees Alex Rodriguez getting a fair trial in the court of public opinion?
English: Alex Rodriguez. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
I think you already know the answer, but that doesn’t make it right.
MLB has already deemed A-Rod guilty of being a customer of Anthony Bosch’s Biogenesis clinic, which allegedly sold PEDs (performance enhancement drugs) to professional athletes. Add that with his past mistakes, and A-Rod was pretty much doomed from the start.
The problem MLB has run into lack of proof…. whoops. And guess whom they are blaming for the nonexistence evidence, A-Rod obviously.
Even ESPN’s Outside the Lines reporter T.J. Quinn, admits that MLB has no physical evidence tied to A-Rod but reported that sources familiar with the investigation, or connected with Biogenesis told him the following:
Sources told “Outside the Lines” that the former Biogenesis of America employee, Michael Porter Fischer, left the company in September after a falling out with Bosch. Fischer, t…

Alex Rodriguez has proclaimed his innocence in regards to a connection to the controversial Biogenesis anti-aging clinic that Major League Baseball is investigating. However, that supposed innocence does not appear to be enough of a reason for Rodriguez to let MLB see documents linking him to the case. According to the New York Times, a representative for A-Rod attempted to buy documents away from the clinic, ostensibly so the league wouldn’t see them. That news prompted Major League Baseball to in turn purchase documents themselves, as a proactive move against any players with similar plans. While the initial report of the league’s intent to buy information didn’t name any players, Rodriguez is among the more prominent names linked to the Biogensis clinic. Others include Ryan Braun, Gio Gonzalez and Melky Cabrera.

Major League Baseball has Ryan Braun in their cross-hairs and are going to great lengths to nab him says Bob Nightengale of USA Today. They have contacted his friends and family, those he has done business with; anyone he is connected to. However according to this report, that is just the tip of the iceberg. There are names of over 90 baseball players who were found in the records of the Biogenesis Clinic, and MLB could use any one of them to find out information on the clinic and even more importantly for them; Braun. Nightengale goes on to give startling detail of how MLB plans to go after the Brewer’s franchise player. These players will have no choice but to talk to MLB officials. If they don’t cooperate, MLB can suspend them, according to the bylaws of the collective bargaining agreement. In some cases, according to two officials who spoke to USA TODAY Sports but were unauthorized to speak publicly, some players will be granted immunity even if they admit guilt to the use of pe…

Major League Baseball has been publicly quiet regarding the stadium saga between the team and the city of St. Petersburg. Commissioner Bud Selig says the issue must be resolved but aside from that, nothing further has been said. Until Saturday morning. Via Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times, MLB union chief Michael Weiner said that the league has wondered what it would be like with the stadium beyond Tampa. Re #Rays, union chief Weiner says there is a curiosity to see what would/could happen w/ stadium on other side of Tampa, closer to Orlando — Marc Topkin (@TBTimes_Rays) March 2, 2013 Clearly there has been some discussions or thoughts regarding a new stadium for the Rays within league circles. And by the looks of things, ideas have been thrown around about a possible relocation just down I-4. Let’s say that were to happen. Would third baseman Evan Longoria be the face of the Kissimmee/Lake Buena Vista/Orlando Sorcerers? Would the picture below be the team’s new ball caps? …

San Francisco Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum made a change this off-season. He’s gone with the ever-more popular hipster-athlete look.
I don’t think anyone can blame Lincecum for making a change. Even though the Giants won the World Series, ”The Freak” had a terrible year. In 2012 he went 10-15 and gave up a career worst 111 runs.
