MRI on John Lackey Comes Back Negative for Structural Damage

John Lackey has been diagnosed with a mid-biceps strain and will likely be placed on the 15-day disabled list. The injury should miss less then a month after leaving his Saturday start with the injury.
According to WEEI’s Rob Bradford, Red Sox CEO Larry Lucchino said that it was his “understanding of the MRI is that he had a mid-biceps strain, no structural damage.”
That would be great news for the Red Sox and the 34-year-old pitcher who missed all of 2012 after needing Tommy John surgery.
Boston can either use Alfredo Aceves as a spot starter for call up a player from Triple-A such as Allen Webster.
Lackey joined the Red Sox as a free agent prior to the 2010 season. Since that time he has been a disappointment making 62 starts and compiling a 26-24 record. During that span he has a 5.24 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP.

John Lackey Hopeful Injury Is ‘Nothing Too Crazy,’ But Admits ‘It Scared the Crap Out of Me’

When John Lackey grabbed his right arm after delivering a pitch to Blue Jays shortstop Jose Reyes on Saturday, the obvious reaction was to assume the worst. Even Lackey is guilty of such.
“A year and a half of getting to this point and having to do it again,” Lackey told reporters when asked what went through his head.
“Yeah, it scared the crap out of me, for sure,” he later added.
Lackey’s start on Saturday was his first since Sept. 25, 2011. He missed all of the 2012 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, and he worked tirelessly to get back to where he was entering Saturday’s game. An injury just didn’t seem fear, especially since Lackey looked fantastic in his 4 1/3 innings before going down.
Lackey’s exact status is still unclear. He’ll undergo an MRI on Sunday, at which point the Red Sox should have a better understanding of how long he’ll be sidelined. The initial prognosis after Saturday’s game, though, is actually somewhat encouraging, mostly because the injury isn’t rela

John Lackey Suffers Biceps Injury

If the initial diagnosis of John Lackey’s arm injury is any indication, he and the Boston Red Sox should consider themselves lucky. After throwing a pitch to Jose Reyes in the 5th inning, Lackey left the game with his right arm hanging there, eerily reminiscent of when a pitcher tears the UCL or does something to their shoulder. Your browser does not support iframes. Fortunately for the Red Sox and Lackey, the tests after the game showed his surgically repaired elbow was strong and that he suffered a biceps strain. He’ll return to Boston for further testing. With Franklin Morales still out for the Red Sox and if Lackey is expected to miss a start, we can expect Alfredo Aceves to step in for him until he returns unless the injury is serious. But we’ll wait for that. As much as we all hate Lackey, it was awful to see him hurt like that. Hopefully things turn out okay for him. Follow Ian on Twitter @soxanddawgs. Three Takeaways from Watching Jon Lester and John Lackey Play Catch

Perhaps a 1:25 video of awkward silence isn’t too appealing to
those who desire a little more excitement out of spring training. However there are a few topics to discuss regarding this video of Jon Lester playing
catch with John Lackey – like their a father-son duo getting ready for a little
league game at Holman Stadium in Nashua, NH. Below is the aforementioned video so take a look, and when  you’re finished check out my three takeaways from it.

John Lackey’s dramatic weight loss

It shouldn’t take you long to figure out what pitcher is
throwing in the foreground (his name’s on the back of the uniform for crying
out loud), but if that number and his name were absent I guarantee you wouldn’t
have a clue who that player was. It’s pretty clear the rumors regarding Lackey’s
weight loss are spot on. Lackey looks like he came to camp ready to go, at least
physically, and that’s a great sign for the Sox. Maybe Lackey should be the new

Boston’s Lackey Missing 2012

Bostons Lackey missing 2012Boston Red Sox starting pitcher John Lackey was a favorite target of New England fans this season as he went 12-12 with a 6.41 ERA. In the team’s dismal September run, Lackey went 0-2 with a 9.13 ERA in five starts.

Now there may be an explanation. The Boston Herald reports that Lackey will be undergoing Tommy John surgery on his right elbow and will miss the 2012 season.

As much as Lackey didn’t deliver in the final month of the season, he also continued to make a mess of things after the season closed when news broke that he was one of the fellas who occasionally had beers in the clubhouse during games. As the Herald points out, maybe a year away from the game will be good for Lackey.

“Aside from just getting healthy, there could be some benefit,” new Sox GM Ben Cherington said, the Herald reports. “You’d have to ask John to get a better answer. He’s been going through a lot. I think he’s closer to resolving some of that stuff than he was a year ago. But maybe it is an opportunity for a fresh start physically and mentally.”

Padres Want Boston’s Lackey?

Padres want Bostons Lackey?John Lackey is among the pitchers who have brought about some bad PR for the Boston Red Sox since the team’s season abruptly ended without a playoff spot. Lackey, Jon Lester and Josh Beckett have caught a lot of heat for drinking beer during games in the team’s clubhouse.

It appears the Red Sox have a place they could send Lackey if they wanted to make a change. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the San Diego Padres have had internal discussions about trying to land Lackey, but only if Boston agrees to eat most of Lackey’s contract. Lackey is two seasons in on a five-year, $ 82.5 million deal.

Padres manager Bud Black and Lackey are old pals, of course. The pair knows each other from their days with the Los Angeles Angels when Black was the pitching coach.

The 32-year-old Lackey went 12-12 with a 6.41 ERA for Boston this season.
