Over the years, there have been some strange beefs between NBA players and other athletes but this one started by former MLB slugger Jose Canseco and Shaquille O’Neal might be the most random.
After Jose called Shaquille “a name for a cat” on Twitter, it launched this bizarre go-between where both challenge each other to a fight:
@josecanseco ill beat your ass rat boy the whole worldsaw u run from hung man Choy. Set it up ill break your jaw#snitchesgetstitches
— SHAQ (@SHAQ) May 5, 2013
(Shaq is referencing Jose Canseco’s first MMA fight against Choi Hong Man)

Shaq get ready for the fight of your life

There’s been a long quasi-fake feud brewing between Shaq and steroid junkie turned twitter trash talker Jose Canseco for years, but it all came to a head Saturday night. It all started with this classy tweet sent off by Canseco to Shaq hey ***** @shaq — Jose Canseco (@JoseCanseco) May 5, 2013 Shaq then proceed to go IN on Canseco, honing in on his ‘snitch’ ways that he’s been notorious for Shaq has since deleted those tweets but kept this one up, I guess as a reminder of sorts? Whatever is going on the gauntlet has been thrown. Someone needs to get these two in the ring and put it on tv, AS.

At the start of this offseason, Jose Canseco was supposed to face off against Lenny Dykstra in a pay-per-view fight (that Dykstra thankfully didn’t show up for it) and now he’s back in the news as he attempts to return to baseball.
The 47-year-old Canseco, who hasn’t played pro ball for 11 years, is going to try out for the Mexican League’s current champs, the Quintana Roo Tigers, according to the Chicago Tribune.
“Back in baseball I knew I would play this year you just gotta believe in your dreams,” Canseco tweeted Sunday. “Leave on redeye tonite to start spring training.”
Canseco, of course, was the American League MVP back in 1988 but sealed his spot in baseball’s history in 1995 when he released his book, “Juiced,” which chronicled his steroids use and claimed that 85 percent of major leaguers used performance-enhancing drugs.
In his 17 years in the majors, Canseco hit 462 homers, 340 doubles, and maintained a batting average of .266.
The Tigers, by the way, play their home games in Cancun. Not a bad place to try and make a comeback.

Jose Canseco, last seen begging Billy Beane for a tryout with the Oakland A’s, has signed to play professional baseball in the Mexican League. The 47-year-old former MVP reports to the Quintana Roo Tigers Monday for the opening of their spring training.
“I am thrilled to be back in affiliated professional baseball,” said Canseco. “Playing and managing for the independent league Yuma Scorpions last year really rekindled my love for the game and facing the veteran players in that league made me realize that I can still hit at the major league level. I am grateful that Cancun has given me this opportunity and I hope to help them to a championship season and demonstrate that I can help a big league team.”
Yup, Jose still holds his MLB dreams. It’s surprising to see the Tigers sign him considering they won the league last year. Are they desperate for publicity or do they actually think a guy who hit .256 in the Golden Baseball League last year will be an asset?
I probably shouldn’t mock this too much — I’d rather see Canseco playing ball than losing celebrity boxing fights to 60-year-old men.

I stole that joke from Pops Derwood.Yes, Offbase readers, Jose Canseco is at it again. After his first two books “Juiced” and “Vindicated” talked about steroids and singing armadillos (speculation, I haven’t read either book), Canseco is set to release his third book, titled “The Truth Hurts”. But that’s no fun. So here’s a list of titles he should’ve used*:1. “Punching Danny Bonaduche Hurts”2. “To Be An Oriole: How I Plan On Leading The American League in Home Runs In 2025″3. “Me And Ozzie’s Conversations With The Mailbox”4. “The Day I Wore This Shirt”5. “Bat Speed: My Day At Dave & Busters”6. “F.P. Santangelo’s Gonna Get Hurt”7. “Of Softball Home Run Derbys & Men”* Source: CSWPUJCGHHHN (the committee to send a wheelbarrow to pick up Jose Canseco and get him the help he needs)
