The World Series-winning St. Louis Cardinals have had the luxury of having Tony La Russa at the helm since 1996. The search for his replacement continued Tuesday when Terry Francona, the former manager of the Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies, visited with Cardinals chairman Bill DeWitt Jr. in Cincinnati, where he runs his private-equity firm, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
“We just had a dialogue,” Francona said, according to the paper. “I enjoy talking about baseball — a lot. Without going into details, we discussed pretty basic philosophy. I’d call it an enjoyable, casual conversation.”
Francona has a record of 939-843 and two World Series wins in his 11 years as manager. He also will forever be remembered in trivia games as the manager of Michael Jordan when he played minor-league ball for the Birmingham Barons.

Dan Jennings is a popular guy. The Baltimore Orioles are looking for a new general manager and the word is that they wanted to speak with the Florida Marlins vice president of player personnel and assistant general manager about it, but the Fish have denied the request, MASN Sports reports.
The Baltimore Sun has it that if this is true, it is the fourth time that the Marlins have denied a team’s request to speak with Jennings about a job. After all, he’s only halfway through an eight-year deal.
The team interviewed its first candidate for the job Tuesday, 43-year-old Arizona Diamondbacks senior vice president of scouting and player development Jerry Dipoto, who spent eight years playing in the majors with the Cleveland Indians, New York Mets, and Colorado Rockies.
Toronto Blue Jays assistant general manager Tony LaCava will get his turn in the interview chair Wednesday, according to KJXT TV.

While I was down in Pirate City last week, I talked with Neal Huntington for about 40 minutes about the Pittsburgh Pirates, the draft, and the international market. Because the interview was so long, and because I was so crunched for time (editing videos, transcribing other interviews for features, watching games, writing), I didn’t get [...]

Cleveland Indians fans have had, to say the least, a rough few years. The Tribe haven’t been able to win more than 69 games the last two seasons and 2008 only saw a .500 winning percentage. Trades and injuries have changed the vibe in Cleveland from when they won the AL Central in 2007. But even with this fall from grace, Indians fans can look to a brighter future, starting with their closer, Chris Perez. Thanks for taking the time to do this interview with TheFantasyFix.com. I know our readers would love to know a little bit more about yourself.TFF: Did you play other sports growing up? CP: I played soccer, basketball, football, volleyball, and pretty much anything else that involved competing. When I was about 13, I concentrated solely on baseball.TFF: While growing up, were there any professional baseball players you tried to emulate?CP: Yes, Frank Thomas when he was with the Chicago White Sox. He was one of the most dangerous hitters during that period, and his spring traini…

It's Spring Training for the Kansas City Royals which is good news because they're still in contention for the AL Central crown. Apparently veteran catcher Jason Kendall didn't get that memo, because it's only been a week and he already has a bug up his butt. Overhearing an interview Kansas City radio host Nick Wright [...]
