The New York Mets were giving the New York Yankees a good run for their money in terms of rumors and speculation leading up to the trade deadline. Everyone knew that the New York Mets were going to trade outfielder Carlos Beltran and it was just a matter of when the trigger would be pulled and what prospects would come back to Queens in exchange. Well, Sandy Alderson and the New York Mets did not waste much time (relative to some other deadline deals) in shipping Carlos Beltran to the San Francisco Giants in exchange for pitching prospect Zack Weeler. When I first heard about the agreement between the New York Mets and the San Francisco Giants, the trade was not quite official so I did not offer up any opinion or analysis. Well, the deal is official and after being out of town for the weekend, I’m ready to share some of my thoughts on the trade.

Red Sox catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia has taken some heat this season, but he was behind the plate for another pitching gem on Sunday.
