Korean Star PSY on Hand for Ryu’s Career Night

LOS ANGELES Hyun-Jin Ryu struck out Colorado Rockies first baseman Jordan Pacheco looking and calmly walked off the field back to the Dodgers dugout to end the top of the fourth inning on Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium.

All of a sudden South Korean megastar PSY of Gangnam Style fame entered Dodger Stadium…on the Jumbotron that is, to a smattering of cheers.

Those cheers turned into a boisterous standing ovation as he emerged coming up the steps near the Dodgers dugout.

Gangham style was in full effect with SY dropping the dance on the True Blue Dodger faithful. Much to their delight, he even gave them an I See You, the gesture made famous by Dodgers third baseman Hanley Ramirez.

A great gesture by PSY, after all, it was Ramirezs I See You Bobblehead Night.

Met @psy_oppa after tonight’s game ISeeYou PSY! twitter.comHanleyRamirez Hanley Ramirez (@HanleyRamirez) May 1, 2013

However, that was just the beginning. There was more PSY to come on Tuesday night at Chavez Ravine.

And plenty of Ryu as well

Brandon Webb Calls It a Career

Former Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Brandon Webb is retiring at age 33, according to his agents. Webb hasn’t pitched in the majors since starting on Opening Day 2009 for the Diamondbacks. He won the NL Cy Young award with Arizona in 2006, and was the runner-up in both 2007 (won by Jake Peavy) and 2008 (won by Tim Lincecum), making the NL All-Star team in all three of those seasons. Webb also finished third in the 2003 NL Rookie of the Year balloting behind Dontrelle Willis and Scott Podsednik.

Webb’s career ends with an 87-62 record and a 3.27 ERA. From his debut in 2003 until his final full season in 2008, Webb was one of the best pitchers in baseball, totaling 33.1 fWAR, good for third in baseball over that six season span behind just Johan Santana and Roy Halladay. Webb’s career through age 29 also compares favorably to some of the best pitchers under 30 over the last 25 years. That 33.1 fWAR is 16th since 1988 among all pitchers through their age 29 seas…

Freddy Garcia Hopes to Continue Big League Career

Freddy Garcia appeared in 30 games last season with the New York Yankees, he had a 5.20 ERA during that span. Unable to duplicate his numbers from the previous season the right handed pitcher has been seeking a contract on the free agent market since the end of the season.
It has not gone well for Garcia.
While some have linked Garcia to teams in need of pitching, such as the Twins and Rockies, no deal has developed. The Miami Herald reported on Sunday that Garcia would have interest in playing for the Miami Marlins.
Garcia would not figure to earn more then a minor league deal wherever he goes, but Miami figures to be one of the worst teams in baseball in 2013.
The Herald also reports that Bobby Abreu is interested in a contract with the Marlins.

MLB Rumors: Atlanta Braves Trying to Reunite Upton Brothers?

Justin Upton and B.J. Upton have not played together for quite some time. B.J. had played his entire MLB career with the Tampa Bay Rays prior to signing with the Atlanta Braves just a little over a month ago. Justin has played his entire career with the Arizona Diamondbacks, although that may also be about to change.
For years now, the Diamondbacks have pondered trading Justin. They have held off thus far, but they have also said that they will always listen. To his credit, Justin has put it all in the back of his mind, although his numbers are still not where many thought they would be at this point in his career.
But what if the Upton Brothers were reunited? What if the Braves made a trade with the Diamondbacks for Justin and put him in the same outfield as his older brother? What sort of impact might that have on both players’ careers going forward?
We may be about to find out, as the Braves are at least one of three teams reportedly showing a lot of interest in acquiring Justin …

Sources: LHP Oliver Mulls Retirement

Left-hander Darren Oliver’s decision on whether to continue his career is more complicated than it might appear.

Oliver, 42, wants to play, but is not willing to return to the Toronto Blue Jays unless the team increases his salary from $ 3 million, according to major-league sources.

The reliever would rather retire than be away from his family for a salary that is well below market value, sources say.

Oliver’s wife, Melissa, and sons, Brock, 12, and Maxwell, 10, live in the Dallas area. Oliver, who pitched for his hometown Texas Rangers from 1993 to ’98, 2000 to ’01 and 2010 to ’11, would welcome a trade back to the Rangers, sources say.

As it stands, he would be taking a significant pay cut with the Blue Jays coming off the best season of his career. The Jays, according to sources, want Oliver back, but are over budget and unwilling to extend their payroll further.

Oliver agreed to a one-year, $ 4.5 million free-agent contract with the Jays last January, figuring that he likely would r
