New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman gave skydiving a try on Monday, and he loved it so much he went back for seconds. In retrospect, Cashman probably wishes he had just kept it to one jump. As John Harper of the NY Daily News shared with us, Cashman went skydiving with the Golden Knights of the US Army on Monday at Homestead Air Force Base in Florida. After feeling the adrenaline rush of one parachute jump, Cashman went back up in the air to try it again. Unfortunately, he broke his ankle as he was landing on the ground at the end of his second jump. “I heard a pop in my ankle,” Cashman said as medical crews were tending to him on the ground. He later told Harper via text message that his ankle is broken and he is unsure if it will require surgery. One of the people who was near Cashman when he landed reportedly said he or she could see a bone sticking out of his leg. Harper shared a photo of Cashman laying on the ground waiting to receive medical attention. Cashman: i heard a pop in my ankle.

We are only a week away from pitchers and catchers reporting to camp, so that means we are entering the time of the year when baseball players end up with freaky injuries. If you remember a season ago, Joba Chamberlain was at death’s doorstep when he broke his ankle and blood was gushing everywhere because he fell off a trampoline while playing with his kid. Okay, so he didn’t almost die, but the Brian Cashman did his best to sell everyone on that when it happened. But we’ve had others, like Rickey Henderson developing frostbite because of improper use of ice on his foot. Glenallen Hill fell through a glass table that was nearby him when he woke up from a nightmare involving spiders. Of course, Vince Coleman missed the entire 1985 World Series because he got rolled up in the tarp machine. This year, we start with Minnesota Twins pitcher Anthony Swarzak. The Twins reliever enters camp with two fractured ribs, and is expected to be out for the next month. He injured the ribs at the Tw…

Alex Rodriguez appears to be hiding. Between rehabbing an injury that could sideline him for much of the 2013 season and facing accusations surrounding performance-enhancing drug use, A-Rod is likely not anxious to speak to the media any time soon. That is why the New York Yankees are doing their best to protect him.
“I’m not going to say to try and keep away the extra, whatever you want to call it, paparazzi, whatever it is, the stakeout, wherever he is working out,” general manager Brian Cashman said Monday night at a team fundraiser, via the New York Post. “That’s the only reason I’m not going to say where he is going to be on a given day.”
Yankees manager Joe Girardi said he has seen A-Rod working out at Yankee Stadium since undergoing hip surgery on Jan. 16, but that he has only spoken to him about his health — not the latest steroid controversy.
“I think our club is used to handling distractions,” Girardi said. “The city we play in, there’s a lot of news always surrounding our cl
