Athletics’ Braden Missing Trip to Japan

c5825 braden dallas Athletics Braden missing trip to JapanOakland Athletics pitcher Dallas Braden won’t be traveling to Japan with the team to start off the season against the Seattle Mariners, but after being out for most of last year, Braden is happy that he has the chance to be ready to pitch for the team when it returns to the States.

Braden, who pitched the 19th perfect game in MLB history back in May of 2010 against the Tampa Bay Rays, is slated to pitch 25 fastballs off a mound Monday for the first time since having shoulder surgery last May, according to MLB.com.

“I feel great,” he said, according to the site. “I feel really strong. It’s nice to know all the hard work we put into the offseason and the days you didn’t want to get up and the days you didn’t want to push through, you now understand why it’s important to do so.”

MLB.com notes that “a realistic time frame” for Braden’s return may be “more like mid-April.”

Nationals Trying to Add Athletics’ Gio Gonzalez

bd308 more offers coming for athletics gio gonzalez Nationals trying to add Athletics Gio GonzalezGio Gonzalez won 16 games for the Oakland Athletics last season and is one of the best hurlers available on the trade market this offseason. Fox Sports reports that the Washington Nationals are doing everything they can to get him onboard.

The Nats are going to have to hold off a few others who really want to snag the 26-year-old as well, namely, the Miami Marlins, Boston Red Sox, and Texas Rangers, Fox notes.

“The Nats want an established lefty to go with their two young right-handed starters, Stephen Strasburg and Jordan Zimmermann,” the site reports. “They were the runner-up for free-agent left-hander Mark Buerhle,” who signed with Miami.

Gonzalez has won 31 games over the past two seasons and had a 3.12 ERA and struck out 197 in 202 innings pitched this past season.

The A’s are also trying to unload closer Andrew Bailey, who has saved 75 games in the past three seasons, the site notes.
