Mike Trout’s agent, Craig Landis, is disappointed with the Angels over the amount of money for which they chose to renew his client’s contract. Trout just completed his rookie season for the Angels. MLB players with 0-3 years of service time are paid what the team chooses (so long as it’s over the minimum). Players are arbitration eligible from years 4-6, and they become free agents after six years of service time. Because he only has one year of service time, the Angels had the right to pay Trout whatever they chose. They opted to renew his contract for $ 510,000, which is just $ 20,000 more than the minimum salary. “In my opinion, this contract falls well short of a ‘fair’ contract and I have voiced this to the Angels throughout the process,” agent Craig Landis said Saturday, per Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register. Landis reportedly said Trout was also disappointed with the amount of money for which the Angels chose to renew his contract. Teams generally renew the contracts of players

Ibanez returns for another go
As if Jason Bay and Kendrys Morales weren’t enough, now the Mariners have gone out and signed Raul Ibanez. The 40-year-old returns to Seattle for his third stint with the M’s, and first since 2008.
What does Ibanez bring to the table?
Just like with Bay, Seattle is hoping Ibanez will bring some much needed power to its lineup.
Ibanez’s second stint with the Mariners—2004-2008—was an era in which Seattle was spending on free agents that “should have been something,” but weren’t. Ibanez was one of the few that “was.”
Over those five seasons Ibanez hit .291/.354/.477 with 113 home runs and 489 RBI. He was one of the few Mariners of that era that could actually hit at Safeco.
So in theory he should be even better now that the fences are moving in.
But Ibanez is still a 40-year-old, and hasn’t hit higher than .245 over his last two seasons. In that same time he’s seen his walk rate drop about 3.0 percent.
But he’s kept his power numbers up, averaging 22 home

Seattle was once considered a possible landing spot for free agent outfielder Nick Swisher. The two no longer seem to be a match as the 32-year-old will no longer meet with the Mariners this week.
If Seattle were to sign Swisher they would forfeit the twelfth pick in the 2013 draft. Signing Michael Bourn would also cost the Mariners the draft pick.
Seattle has been trying to find ways to add offense to a lineup that was 27th in runs scored and 19th in home runs with 149.
Last season Swisher hit .272/.364/.473 with 24 home runs. His 93 RBI were two short of his career high from the 2006 season.
There are multiple teams that are interested in him, none more so then the Cleveland Indians who met with Swisher on Tuesday. During that meeting former Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel served as a greeter for the team.
The Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles are also interested in signing Swisher.

The Philadelphia Phillies figure to sign one of the top
remaining free agent outfielders on the market, including Josh Hamilton, Nick
Swisher or Cody Ross, reports Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
The Phillies figure to sign one of the aforementioned. They
have approximately $ 20 million (in average annual value) of payroll to spend.
They have already traded away four chips from a deep pitching stable. Now it’s
time to spend money.
The Phillies have gotten creative in order to fill their
voids in center field and third base, trading Vance Worley and Trevor May to
acquire Ben Revere from the Minnesota Twins and getting Michael Young from the
Texas Rangers at a reduced rate.
This creativity has afforded Philadelphia additional payroll
space. Gelb believes the club will use this cash to ink one of the top
available corner outfielders to add needed power to its roster.
The Phillies have long been connected to Ross, and “they ar…

NASHVILLE, Tenn. Cardinals utility man Skip Schumaker has informed the club that he would welcome a trade if they don’t envision giving him more regular playing time next season.
Schumaker, who fell out of favor with manager Mike Matheny and was rarely used down the stretch, hit .276 and had a .339 on-base percentage in 107 games last season.
Mozeliak confirmed Monday that Schumaker made his stance known via his agent early this offseason. The left-handed hitter has one year remaining on a two-year, 3 million deal he signed with the Cardinals last winter.
“There’s no doubt that the opportunity for him was somewhat limited over the last couple months of the season,” Mozeliak said. “So if something made sense, I’m sure we’d consider it.
“I did have a brief conversation with his agent early on about that. It wasn’t demanding or anything like that, but he did express that he is looking for perhaps a better place to get more opportunity.”
Mozeliak said there were

The arbitration deadline has come and gone, and to the dismay of many Baltimore Orioles fans, the O’s non-tendered 1B Mark Reynolds and he is now an unrestricted free agent.
Both are now free agents
Fans held onto hope until the clock finally struck midnight, that Baltimore and Reynolds would be able to get something done, but the Orioles had no intention of doing so. According to Reynolds, the O’s never negotiated or presented him with any type of offer and executive VP/GM Dan Duquette didn’t contact Reynolds until late last night to inform him the Orioles were non-tendering him. Although Mark said the right things in that he would not rule out a return to Baltimore, there is no way he comes back now without even being contacted before the arbitration deadline to attempt to work something out. The Orioles basically said, “it was nice having you for a couple of years, but good luck.”
It is a shame, I was a big Reynolds fan. All he did was exactly what Baltimore got him for, hit ho…

The San Francisco Giants declined to tender a one-year contract with closer Brian Wilson by Friday night’s deadline, allowing him to become a free agent.
Wilson, who is recovering from a second ligament-replacement surgery on his right elbow, made only two appearances for the World Series champions this year after suffering the elbow injury in April. He underwent Click Link Below to Read More!
