The Oakland A’s have agreed to deplete their rotation even more and trade Gio Gonzalez to the Washington Nationals. The Nationals will send A.J. Cole, Brad Peacock, Tom Milone and Derek Norris to Oakland. All players are highly rated prospects.
Gonzalez will join a rotation that will feature Stephen Strasburg, Jordan Zimmerman, Chien-Ming Wang and John Lannan. Gonzalez is expected to be with the Nationals until 2015 and this deal is expected to be a payroll dump as Oakland tries to reorganize their budget.
The Nationals beat out bigger market teams like New York, Boston and Miami.
Oakland will now have a few prospects in their rotation. They include Jarrod Parker, Collin Cowgill and Ryan Cook who were all received in the Trevor Cahill deal when he was sent to Arizona.
The future looks bleak for Oakland while it is bright for Washington.
