Reds, Marshall Nearing Contract Extension

The Cincinnati Reds and left-handed reliever Sean Marshall are nearing a multiyear contract extension, major league sources told FOXSports.com.
An announcement is expected early this week.
Marshall, obtained from the Chicago Cubs in an off-season trade, was on track to become a free agent after this season.
Marshall, 29, is coming off arguably his best season in the majors. He went 6-6 with a 2.26 ERA in 78 relief appearances for the Cubs. He could be a candidate to close for Cincinnati in 2013, if current closer Ryan Madson departs as a free agent.
The Reds also have interest in signing second baseman Brandon Phillips and first baseman Joey Votto to long-term contracts. Phillips contract is up after this season, Vottos after next.
Were doing everything we can to try to keep these guys, owner Bob Castellini told FOXSports.com Saturday in Goodyear, Ariz. I think those are two fellows (Phillips and Votto) who would really like to stay.
