Indians Working on Carmona Case

Indians manager Manny Acta says Major League Baseball has made strides in fixing a ”flawed” system that forces young players in the Dominican Republic to lie about their identities so they can play in the U.S.

Last week, Cleveland pitcher Fausto Carmona was arrested in Santo Domingo on charges he falsified documents. Acta has been in daily contact with Carmona, whom authorities say is 31-year-old Roberto Hernandez Heredia.

Acta could not comment on any specifics surrounding Carmona’s case. The Indians on Thursday placed the right-hander on baseball’s restricted list, which means he will not count against their 25- or 40-man rosters.

Acta and some of his players appeared at an event attended by hundreds of Indians fans hoping the team can catch Detroit in the AL Central this season.
