Heath Bell has saved 30 games for the San Diego Padres this season and 121 since joining the team in 2007, but he seems to think he’ll be taking his glove somewhere else before Sunday’s trading deadline passes.
“It’s going to happen,” Bell said Thursday of being traded, according to CBSSports.com. “It will probably be down to the wire.”
But don’t despair, Padres fans. Bell has apparently enjoyed his time in San Diego so much that he not only can see himself signing with the Padres in the offseason but doing so at a discount: “Honestly, with everything that’s happened, I wouldn’t rule out anything,” Bell said, CBS reports. “I said I’d take a discount, and I want to stay here. Everyone knows that.”
Yahoo! Sports’ Tim Brown notes that the Texas Rangers’ “interest [in Bell] seemed to draw ever more connected Wednesday night, when Rangers manager Ron Washington questioned existing closer Neftali Feliz’s ‘fire.’”
