New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez has been on the disabled list since July 8, recovering from right knee surgery to fix a torn meniscus. Now he’s getting ready to finally hit the field again.
The New York Daily News reports that A-Rod will head to Tampa on Thursday to work out in the Yankees’ complex there so that he can return to the Bronx by mid-August.
“The idea is to start getting him doing some baseball stuff,” manager Joe Girardi said, the Daily News reports. “I think once he gets going, it shouldn’t take that long. It’s more just waiting for the knee to heal. I don’t think you’re talking about having to do a week of rehab games. I think once we get it, it’ll go pretty quickly.”
Rodriguez is batting .295 with 13 homers and 52 RBIs in 80 games this season.
